GREENWOOD, Ind. (June 17, 2025) – College Sports Communicators (CSC) revealed the 2025 Academic All-District awards for men's golf this week, listing senior
Chase Kaiser and juniors
Sebastian Bengtsson,
Blake Henriques and Xing Lou from the University of North Alabama.
This is Bengtsson, Kaiser and Luo's second CSC Academic All-District selection, coming in consecutive years. This is Henriques' first while a member of the Lions.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average and must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The athletic criteria includes that eligible nominees must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.
Bengtsson, a junior from Helsingborg, Sweden finished with four top-10 finishes this season and seven total top-25 finishes. He earned his first career ASUN Golfer of the Week award after his 10th place finish at the FAU Golf Invitational on Oct. 28.
Luo won an individual crown at the GMAC Invitational. The junior was a four-time ASUN Golfer of the Week winner, which is now most for a Lion during their career. The junior had seven top-10 finishes for the year with five of the last six finishing seventh or higher.
He ended the year with a fourth-place finish at the ASUN Championships and made the ASUN All-Tournament team. After the ASUN Tournament finish, he became the first Lion to appear in the Division I NCAA Regionals in school history.
Kaiser had two top-15 finishes this year with an eighth-place finish at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge on March 31. He finished with a six-under and finished with a 210-overall score for the tournament — his lowest as a Lion.
Henriques competed in 10 of the 11 tournaments this season with a top-15 placement at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge on March 31. The transfer junior shot a 65 in the opening round of that tournament which is tied for the lowest individual round in Division I history at UNA.
"Always proud of guys that produce in the classroom and on the course," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach, Austin Phillips. "It was a focus on the team and the guys stepped up this year. I am proud of what they are doing and I know they will continue to improve."
All four golfers led North Alabama, according to available records, to their highest ranking in school history at No. 78 in the nation. The Lions finished fourth at the ASUN Tournament — another team high as their previous best finish was fifth in 2021.
While their achievements on the course were spectacular, in the classroom was just as remarkable. The men's golf team finished with the highest male GPA amongst North Alabama teams. They boasted a collective 3.64 GPA — best for fourth among all sports.
UNA's men's golf program now has seven CSC Academic All-District selections during the Division I era, all coming within the last two seasons. Jake Greer is the only other selection, coming in 2012.
