MARICOPA, Az. (May 23, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished the second day of play in 10th place at the National Golf Invitational in Maricopa, Az.
UNA was one of 10 teams selected to the tournament in the NGI's fourth year of play. The Lions used four seniors in the five-man starting lineup in Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
Senior Xing Luo returned to action in the second day with a 67 (-5) card to lead the Lions to sit in a tie for 21st. Luo turned in five birdies for a bogey-free round; he finished the final nine holes at four-under par as he birdied three of the last four.
Another senior, Sebastian Bengtsson, shot one-under for the day to finish tied for 29th. The pair of starters led the Lions for a second straight day.
After a four-over first day, North Alabama finished one-over for a 289 scorecard in the second round. After the two days of play, UNA sits at five-over with a total of 581.
After thirteen birdies in round one, the Lions returned with 20 more Saturday morning. Bengtsson led the Lions with six as Luo tallied five total. Blake Henriques tied for 40th with a two-over day. The senior logged three birdies and had eight straight pars on the back nine.
Senior Corey Maher sank three birdies and had a 35 (-1) through the first nine holes of play. Redshirt freshman Luke Davis added three birdies to the group and finished in 49th.
Grand Canyon took ahold of the leaderboard on day two with a 20-under second round. SEC power Missouri shot 11-under to stay in second at 29-under between the 36 holes of play.
Rhode Island sits in third, the same as the first round, at 28-under. William & Mary and Wyoming had the best days for teams not named Grand Canyon at 18-under.
"Great playing by a couple of our guys today…proud of the fight back from yesterday," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips. "We just have to keep working hard tomorrow and give it one last great round."
North Alabama continues play with redshirt freshman Luke Davis leading the way at 8:45 a.m. CT for the second round.
