Lions complete over 4,000 hours of community engagement

UNA ranks No. 21 in national Helper Helper rankings with over $140,000 in service-related economic impact

FLORENCE, Ala. (June 2, 2025) – On Monday, the University of North Alabama Department of Athletics announced its year-end report from Helper Helper — a platform used to track volunteer hours in college athletics. UNA Athletics finished the 2024-25 academic year with over 4,000 hours of community engagement and over $140,000 in economic impact.

In the report, UNA ranked among the top 25 schools in the nation with the No. 21 ranking. The Lions are the only team from the Atlantic Sun Conference in the rankings.

According to the projections, UNA increased its economic impact by $11,000 from last season.

Furthermore, six of UNA's athletic programs ranked among the top 10 schools in their sport, including men's basketball, men's cross country, men's and women's golf, women's tennis and volleyball.

The UNA women's tennis program finished second in their sport, marking the second straight top three finish after coming in third last season.

"It's always exciting to see our student-athletes continue to serve the Shoals community and stay involved in so many different projects," said Anna Milwee, UNA's Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Success. "While we're honored to be recognized by Helper Helper, our true goal is to make a lasting impact in our community. I commend our student-athletes and staff for their dedication to community service."

According to Helper Helper, a total of 610,216 volunteer hours were reported across all three levels of the NCAA in 2024-25, an increase of over 40,000 hours from last year. This number came from nearly 54,000 participants and over 18,000 opportunities. This also created an economic impact of $21.2 million, which is $3 million more than last season.
