RICHMOND, Ky. (September 28, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon, marking their third tie of the season.
North Alabama (5-3-3, 1-1-1 ASUN) recorded its seventh clean sheet of the year, as goalkeeper
Madison Vukas and the Lions' defense held the Colonels — the No. 42 team in the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) and highest-ranked in the ASUN — without a goal.
Eastern Kentucky (7-2-3) is ranked higher than programs such as Ole Miss, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Miami (Fla.), among others. North Alabama became the third team this season to hold the Colonels scoreless. The other two opponents to do so were ASUN opponent Lipscomb and nationally-ranked No. 2 Tennessee.
The defense was stamped on this game as they blocked or pushed 10 EKU shots off target — Vukas cleaned up all three on-goal attempts for saves. The graduate keeper came into this game ranked eighth in shutouts with six for the season.
Offensively, North Alabama reached double-digit shots for the first time since its win over Tennessee Tech, finishing with 12 attempts. Forwards
Lexi Vernsey and
Anna Fugarino led the team with three shots apiece, each putting one on frame.
Defender
Gracie Tyrrell, midfielder
Molly Parham, and forwards
Alana Owens and
Mya Barr combined for the remaining six shots.
Sunday's result marked North Alabama's first tie since a 0-0 draw against UT Martin on Aug. 21. All three of UNA's ties this season have ended scoreless.
The Lions and Colonels have now drawn three times in five all-time meetings — all finishing 0-0. The teams will meet again on Oct. 16 in Florence.
Three players — Vukas, midfielder
Adelyn Speight and defender
Lilly Ford — played the full 90 minutes. Defender
Avery Stojakovich followed closely with 88 minutes. In total, 20 Lions saw the field.
North Alabama returns to action Thursday, Oct. 2, hosting Austin Peay at 7 p.m. at the Cox Creek Sports Complex.
