Women’s Basketball set for home ASUN action against Stetson and FGCU

Lions look to stay hot against Hatters and Eagles

FLORENCE, Ala. (January 28, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team continues play in CB&S Bank Arena this week with evening matchups against Stetson and FGCU in Florence, Ala.

The Lions open against Stetson on Thursday and concludes the weekend vs. FGCU on Saturday. Both games begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for both games through the North Alabama ticket office and on RoarLions.com.

Live stats will be provided by StatBroadcast. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+ with "Voice of the Lions" Benjamin Ray on the call. Matt Daniels and Bryan Neece will be the analysts for Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Chase Glover will additionally serve as the courtside reporter for both games.

Both games will air on radio through Roar Lions Productions. Bryan Neece will provide commentary against Stetson, and AJ Good will be on the call vs. FGCU. The "Countdown to Tipoff" radio show is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m. for both contests.

Full results and a recap will be posted on RoarLions.com following each game, but fans can also follow along in real time on the UNA Women's Basketball social media pages.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the games, as parking is limited due to ongoing construction. As such, the lot near the Hal Self Athletic Annex will be unavailable. Violators will be towed if parked in the construction zone.

Lots A and B will be in the parking lot directly below Flowers Hall. Lot A pass holders will have coned off spots near the staircase. Shuttles will be available to take fans up to the field house lot for entry into CB&S Bank Arena.

Lot C parking will be in the parking lot below the Mitchell Burford Science and Technology Building. Residential Students will have access into Lot C with their hang tags. The public can also park in this lot for $12. Parking at the Bill Jones athletic complex will be unavailable. However, this lot is available as a drop off area near the arena.

Limited handicap parking will be available in front of the CB&S Bank Arena ticket office.

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama continued its winning ways and extended a three-game streak to four games in a 63-60 victory over Queens. Key shots and defensive stops helped UNA in the win, securing the team's longest streak in two seasons under Candi Whitaker and since the 2023-24 season.

SCOUTING UNA: North Alabama has been rolling during its four-game win streak to the tune of victories over Bellarmine, North Florida, Jacksonville and Queens. The Lions are leading opponents in field-goal percentage (42.5 percent to 36.1) as well as three-point percentage (33.3% - 24.2%), rebounds (149-143), assists (61-44), blocks (16-10) and steals (34-30). Four Lions have averaged double digits in scoring in senior Alexsandra Alvarado (17.5 PPG), senior India Howard (12.5), freshman Gabby Jackson (11.5) and junior Katie Criswell (10.5).

SCOUTING STETSON:
 The Hatters enter the weekend with a 11-8 overall record while 4-4 in ASUN play. Last time out, the Hatters split contests against Lipscomb and Austin Peay on Jan. 22 & 24, respectively. They defeated the Bisons, 66-60, before falling to Governors, 86-81. Stetson is second in the conference in three-point percentage (33.8 percent), three-pointers made (8.6 per game) and assists (14.42). The Hatters have the top scorer and assister in the conference, respectively, in Cameron Thomas (17.8 PPG) and Mary McMillan (4.5 APG).

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 14th all-time meeting. Stetson holds the series lead, 7-6. The Hatters won the first season meeting on Jan. 3 by a 76-59 final in DeLand, Fla. The Lions were victorious in the last meeting in CB&S Bank Arena, defeating Stetson, 75-57, on Jan. 16, 2025.

SCOUTING FGCU:
 The Eagles are fourth in the conference standings with a 9-10 overall record and 5-3 ASUN mark. FGCU look to end a two-game skid after falling to Lipscomb, 53-44, on Jan. 24. The Eagles have the third best defense in the ASUN, holding opponents to 60.2 points per game. Sinai Douglas leads the team in points per game (10.4/22nd in ASUN) and assists per game (3.1/eighth in ASUN).

SERIES HISTORY
: North Alabama goes for its second win in the 16th meeting of the all-time series. FGCU took the first season meeting in a 51-44 win on Jan.1, 2026. The lone UNA win came on February 29, 2020, in a 61-55 triumph over the nationally-ranked No. 23 Eagles.

RIGHT UP HER ALLEY:
Alvarado sports a team-leading 12.1 points per game. She is also UNA's leader in assists (48), three-pointers made (35) and steals (28). Alvarado is tied for fifth in the ASUN in three-pointers made per game (1.9 per game), 12th in scoring and tied for 13th in assists per game (2.7). Defensively, Alvarado is tied for 6th in steals per game (1.6). She set a Division I program record in single-game scoring with 37 points on Jan. 17 at Jacksonville. The senior also set a Division I program record with 13 free-throws made against the Dolphins.

SOFIA SHINES:
Sophomore Sofia Ceppellotti is second on the team with 10.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. The sophomore is 15th in rebounding, tied for 16th in three-pointers made per game (1.4) and tied for 17th in scoring in the ASUN.

GABBY GETS IT!:
Jackson is the team leader in total rebounds with 117 for a 6.5 average. The Kansas City, Mo. native is 11th in the ASUN in rebounds per game and earned back-to-back ASUN Player of the Week honors on Jan. 12 and 20.

BUKKY BUCKETS: 
Graduate Bukky Akinsola has shown veteran leadership in multiple parts of the game. Averaging 6.8 points per game, Akinsola has made her mark in the playmaking and defense category. She's second in total assists (40) and tied for second in steals (18).

NOTHING EASY:
North Alabama gets it done on the defensive end with four players ranked in the ASUN's blocked shots leaderboard. Howard ranks tied for seventh at one per game while Ceppellotti and Criswell are tied for 19th at 0.6. Senior Jazzy Klinge rounds out the list tied for 22nd at 0.5.

AMONG THE RANKS:
In addition to ASUN ranks, the Lions are in the top 100 nationally in two defensive categories as of Jan. 27. North Alabama ranks 72nd in opponent three-point percentage (28.2 percent) and 94th in opponent field-goal percentage (38.2 percent).
