FLORENCE, Ala. (January 9, 2026) – University of North Alabama Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas has announced the Spring 2026 women's tennis schedule on Friday, Jan. 9. The season opener is next Friday, Jan. 16.
The schedule consists of 19 match days, with six home matches, 13 away/neutral matches and concludes with the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Championships in April.
UNA opens on Jan. 16 with a trip to SEC opponent Alabama. The Lions face Arkansas State on Jan. 19 and Samford on Jan. 30 to close out the opening month.
North Alabama's next outing comes in a triple-header on Feb. 6 against Louisiana, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State. The Lions then take on in-state rival Jacksonville State on Feb.10 before facing Belmont on Feb. 14.
The final February matches come against Alabama A&M on Feb. 15 and EKU on Feb. 27. The EKU match begins a stretch of six-straight home matches at the UNA Tennis Courts.
Troy follows EKU to begin the month of March, facing North Alabama on March 6. The Lions compete against FGCU on March 8, followed by Murray State on March 14. Matches in Florence conclude with a March 15 bout vs. Western Kentucky before Senior Day on March 17 against Chattanooga.
A matchup against North Florida on March 22 along with a March 25 meeting against Milwaukee concludes the month.
The Lions will have two regular season matches in April before the conference tournament. UNA hits the road against Lipscomb on April 3 and UAB on April 5. The 2026 ASUN Women's Tennis Championship will run through April 14-18, hosted by FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla.
Garrido-Rivas leads the Lions into Spring 2026 with high expectations. North Alabama had a program-record year in 2025, posting a 19-6 overall record with a 7-2 record in Atlantic Sun Conference play. UNA won two ASUN Championship Tournament matches against Austin Peay and North Florida, advancing to play top-seeded Stetson in the tournament final.
Garrido-Rivas additionally was named the ASUN's Coach of the Year – the first in the Division I era. She became the program's third all-time coach honoree and first since Kevin Bradford was named Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year in 1992.
The season culminated with a UTR Sports NIT Championship Tournament appearance. The Lions secured their first-ever tournament victory with a triumph over Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinal round before falling to No. 48 Charlotte in the semifinals.
