NOTES
ABOUT LAST GAME: The Lions dropped a 1-0 decision to Abilene Christian on Thursday night in the second-ever game at the newly opened Bank Independent Stadium. A battle of offenses, North Alabama outshot the Wildcats 16-15 with seven shots on goal. Wildcat Addison Briscoe scored a penalty kick in the 20th minute, which became the game-winner for ACU after 90 minutes. Despite the PK, goalkeeper Emily Dorfman had a big night, punching out several crosses and knocking down major goal opportunities for her defense to clear out. She had eight saves, the second-most in a game this season for the junior. Eight different Lions had a shot, as Anna Fugarino led the way with four, while Meg Welsh was close behind with three. The Lions are now 2-2 in conference play and look for their first home conference win on Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY: This is the first-ever meeting between the North Alabama Lions and the Tarleton State Texans in program history.
SCOUTING THE TEXANS: Tarleton State arrives in Florence with a record of 4-3-6 overall and 2-1-1 in conference and seven points in UAC play. Most recently, the Texans were victorious over Austin Peay 3-1 after tying Little Rock 3-3 and losing to Abilene Christian 3-2. Tarleton has netted 25 goals this season across nine different Texans. Sophomore Zahra Friess leads the team with six goals on the season, while junior Jessica Baries has netted five and leads the UAC in assists (7) and points (17). Baries is also the reigning UAC Player of the Week as of Oct. 5, which marks her second weekly award this season. Friess and freshman Avery Mendez each earned a UAC Player of the Week award in September, as well.
CROSSING OVER: The meeting between UNA and Tarleton marks another UAC "crossover" game, the first being against Abilene Christian on Thursday night. The newly formed eight-team conference is split into a pair of four-team divisions. UNA competes in the Blue Division with Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay and West Georgia, while Abilene Christian and Tarleton State join Central Arkansas and Little Rock in the Red Division. Teams play each opponent within their division twice – once at home and once away – and each team from the opposite division once. For the UAC Tournament, the top team in each division earns a bye to the semifinals. Central Arkansas will host the conference tournament, beginning with first-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 8. The semifinals will be played Wednesday, Nov. 11, followed by the championship match Saturday, Nov. 14.
CROSSING OVER: Due to worship services, the College View Church of Christ parking lot will be unavailable for Sunday's game. Fans are welcome to park at College View for sporting events except on Sundays and Wednesdays. Students, faculty and staff can park in the designated area Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
NEXT GAME: After the Texans, the Lions hit the road for an away slate at Little Rock on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. and Central Arkansas on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
