FLORENCE, Ala. (October 11, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Tarleton State on Sunday afternoon in the third all-time game at the newly-opened Bank Independent Stadium.
North Alabama (5-3-4, 2-2-1 UAC) outshot the Texans 21-10 this afternoon with 12 shots coming in the second half. The game's superhero, senior Maddie Reynolds, had six shots with four on target alongside her equalizer in the 83rd minute.
Tarleton State (4-3-7, 2-1-2 UAC) scored in the 66th minute thanks to Jessica St. Baires, the third-leading goal scorer across the conference. The Texans amassed 10 shots with seven on goal for the afternoon matchup.
North Alabama had 21 total shots but doubled up Tarleton State in the second half, 12-6. The Lions added six total corners for the game, with five in the first 45 minutes of play; UNA had only three corners against Abilene Christian on Thursday night.
Reynolds was the star with her performance as she kept pressure on the backline and Texans keeper all afternoon. Her 83rd minute goal came off a ricochet shot off a TSU defender that bounced back to midfielder Monica Yoder. Yoder passed back to Reynolds who laced in her second goal of the season and her first in conference play.
Five different Lions had a shot on target today, as Reynolds was the only UNA player to have multiple on frame. Yoder and Meg Welsh each had three shots for the contest, while Alana Owens had two.
Junior Emily Dorfman had four saves through the 90 minutes of action with several punch outs. One of the most notable was her ninth minute knockdown save against TSU's Zahra Friess. After it was knocked down, St. Baires came scorching to clean it up before the UNA backline stopped the ball from crossing and cleared it from danger.
This was the first all-time matchup against the Texans in program history. Tarleton State was the second UAC Red Division team UNA has faced this season behind Abilene Christian on Thursday.
Nineteen Lions found playing time on the sunny Sunday afternoon at Bank Independent Stadium. Five Lions competed full time in Dorfman, Adelyn Speight, Avery Smith, Gracie Tyrrell and Lilly Ford. The maestro, Reynolds, led reserves with 41 minutes of action with captain Charlotte Sobotka right behind her with 38.
North Alabama travels to meet another red division opponent in Little Rock on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. in Little Rock, Ark. at the Coleman Sports Complex.
