JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (February 17, 2026) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announce its softball weekly honors for the second time this season, as North Alabama sophomore
Holly Merritt was voted the ASUN Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Merritt, a sophomore transfer from Miami Ohio, was the offensive catalyst for UNA last weekend at the Samford Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. She went 8-for-15 with two homers and two doubles. One of her homers was a go-ahead shot against First Team All-American Maya Johnson for Belmont.
Merritt led UNA to wins over Belmont and Samford, batting .533 and slugging 1.067 over the four games. She added five runs and six RBI, including a grand slam against Lindenwood in the weekend opener.
Defensively, Merritt was perfect at first base with 22 putouts and one assist. She did not commit any errors to maintain her 1.000 fielding percentage for the season. Over nine games, she has 42 putouts and four assists.
Today marks the first weekly award of Merritt's career and the first for UNA this season. The last time UNA won a weekly award was Feb. 10, 2025 when
Briley Dover and
Emily Simon swept the ASUN Player and Pitcher of the Week awards on opening weekend.
North Florida's Cameron Ponich won the ASUN Pitcher of the Week this week.
Merritt and the Lions return to action on Friday at South Alabama, beginning a five-game tournament in Mobile, Ala. The Lions will face Loyola Chicago, West Georgia, UT Martin and South Alabama. The UWG game will not count toward the ASUN standings.
