Women’s Tennis wins two in Friday doubleheader

Lions leave Mississippi perfect with Louisiana and Jackson State wins

JACKSON, Miss. (February 6, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team claimed its second and third season wins Friday afternoon in victories over Louisiana and Jackson State in Jackson, Miss.

North Alabama (3-2) added two wins to its record after a strong display on the road. The Lions began with a 4-1 win over Louisiana before sweeping Jackson State, 4-0. UNA defeated the Ragin' Cajuns for their first-ever series victory while moving to 4-0 against the Tigers.

The Lions started strong against Louisiana by taking the doubles point. Juniors Mathilde Delaney and Emma Ansorge claimed the first win from court two in a 6-3 victory over Angelique Berrat and Marilou Bressan. Senior Senem Ocal and junior Louise Booker followed with a win on court three in a 6-1 triumph over Rocio Navarro and Nina Krecklenberg.

North Alabama continued its strong play by taking three of the four completed matches.

Freshman Sammie Schouten had a great display against Navarro, taking a 6-3, 6-1 triumph from court five. Ansorge earned her second win against Louisiana with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Bressan from court two. Delaney settled the dual from court three with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win against Safia Zenbi.

The Lions showed no signs of slowing down in its win over Jackson State. A competitive doubles portion to start saw UNA over the Tigers for the early advantage. A dominant singles portion saw wins from the second, fifth and sixth to secure the 2-0 day.

Ansorge and Delaney got doubles started with a 6-3 win over Polina Georgieva and Mariia Iordanova from court two. Jackson State would take the third flight, but senior Eeva Ristola and freshman Farah Asaad settled doubles with a top-flight triumph over Paula Corbalan and Isabella Benavides, 6-4.

Schouten once again tallied the first singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Daniela Tovar from court five. Asaad earned her second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 display from court six vs. Helen Hernandez. Ansorge completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Iordanova from court two.
