Beach Volleyball readies for Stetson Spring Invitational

Lions set for Florida trip with four duals in DeLand this weekend

DELAND, Fla. (March 12, 2026) – The North Alabama beach volleyball team takes on the Stetson Spring Invitational this weekend from March 13-14 in DeLand, Fla.

UNA gets their first taste of Atlantic Sun Conference action with the trip to Stetson. The Lions are set to face the No. 15 Hatters along with FGCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Southern Miss.

The weekend begins on Friday, March 13 against Stetson at 8:45 a.m. and FGCU at 3 p.m. North Alabama concludes the trip on Saturday, March 14 vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 9:30 a.m. and Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m.

Live stats will be provided for all matches courtesy of Stetson with full results and a recap posted on RoarLions.com at the conclusion of each day of the invitational.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
 The third outing of UNA's season sees the Lions coming off a three-win result at the Tiger Beach Challenge from Feb. 27-28. North Alabama secured a day-one triumph over Southern Miss before ending with a two-win second day over Houston Christian and ULM. Graduate Audrey Gauthier and senior Selma Robinson led the Lions on the weekend with three wins, along with sophomores Brooke Bolden and Jennah Atchley. Robinson's win against ULM marked a career milestone with the Sweden native securing her 75th career victory. Graduate Sarah Larkin Lewis, senior Lucy Wedding, senior Hailey Benesz and sophomore Paige Griner all won two matches on the weekend, and the freshmen tandem of Emma White and Gaby Harnden each tallied a win.

SCOUTING STETSON:
 The Hatters own an 11-5 record on the season. Stetson's last outing saw the Hatters split contests against No. 7 Florida State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Hatters took a 3-2 decision vs. the Islanders on March 11. The last invitational for Stetson resulted in a two-win weekend at the Long Beach Invitational against Cal State Bakersfield and Santa Clara on March 7. The Hatters are led by Kristina Hernandez.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS THE HATTERS: The eighth meeting between the teams, the Lions look to claim a win over Stetson in the first time in series history.

SCOUTING FGCU:
 The Eagles are 6-6 on the season, last time out tallying two wins at the TCU Invitational from March 6-7. FGCU defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Christian in the outing in Fort Worth, Texas. Six players claimed wins in Erin Miller, Nicole De Oliveira, Kaitlyn Beck, Sydney Majick, Emma Soncrant and Andrea Dietz. The head coach for the Eagles is Chris Sweat.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS THE EAGLES:
UNA searches for its first win in the 10th all-time meeting against FGCU.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI: The Islanders sport a 5-7 record on the year and a 1-0 record in the Southland Conference. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will look to get back in the win column after last time out falling to No. 7 Florida State and No. 15 Stetson. The team's last invitational appearance saw the Islanders sweep Houston Christian on March 6. Mia Stevens leads the team with seven wins this season, followed by six each from Kristin Bobay, Madison Morrow, Maria Duda Fernandes De Melo and Millie Olsson. Gayle Stammer is the head coach for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS THE ISLANDERS: UNA has the lone win in the second all-time meeting between the programs. The Lions defeated the No. 20 Islanders on April 6, 2024, marking the first UNA win over a ranked opponent in program history.


SCOUTING SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI: Southern Mississippi heads to Deland with a 3-9 record. They competed at the Sun Devil Classic last time out from March 6-7, claiming one win vs. Stephen F. Austin. Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda lead from the top flight with a 7-5 record.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS THE GOLDEN EAGLES: North Alabama looks to stay unbeaten vs. Southern Miss, owning a 3-0 record over the Golden Eagles. UNA met Southern Miss earlier this season at the Tiger Beach Challenge, with the Lions defeating the Golden Eagles, 3-2, on Feb. 27.
