Women’s Tennis readies for two-dual slate starting Saturday

Lions look to defend home court against Murray State and Western Kentucky

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 13, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team has a two-dual home stand starting Saturday, March 14 vs. Murray State and Western Kentucky from the UNA Tennis Courts.

UNA looks to remain unbeaten at home with the upcoming matches in Florence. The Lions face Murray State first on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. before taking on Western Kentucky on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
North Alabama is firing on all cylinders in recent action, winning eight-straight duals leading up to the weekend. UNA stayed hot in dramatic fashion last time out with a 4-3 victory over Troy on March 6 in Florence. The Lions win 70.8 percent of singles bouts and 64 percent of doubles matches. Junior Emma Ansorge is unbeaten in both singles and doubles with an 8-0 singles record while 7-0 in doubles. Freshman Sammie Schouten is tied for the team lead with eight singles victories, and junior Mathilde Delaney remains unbeaten in doubles at 7-0.

SCOUTING MURRAY STATE: The Racers hit the road to Florence in search of its third win this season. Murray State looks to add to its win tally after defeating both Cumberland and Southern Indiana to start the season on Jan. 23 and 31, respectively. Jorge Caetano is the head coach for Murray State.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama looks to tally its second all-time win over Murray State in the fifth series meeting. The last meeting resulted in the Lions' first series win with a 4-3 road victory on March 2, 2024.

SCOUTING WESTERN KENTUCKY: The Lady Toppers own an 8-8 record as they prep for their first trip to North Alabama since March 21, 2023. Western Kentucky has split its previous six contests but look to get back in the win column after a defeat to Sam Houston on March 12. The team wins doubles at a 42.9 percent rate with a solid singles win rate at 57.9 percent. Virginia Madueño leads the team with a 13-2 singles record to go with seven doubles' wins. Isabelle Einess, Ariadna Fernandez, Barbara Olvera and Andra Sirbu are all tied for second in singles wins with eight. Fernandez additionally has seven doubles' victories – tied with Madueño. The Lady Toppers are coached by Greg Davis.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama and Western Kentucky prep for the 19th all-time meeting with UNA leading the series, 10-8. The Lions won the last meeting on April 4, 2024, in a 4-1 victory on the road.
