Oswald’s season-high strikeouts silence Govs, 9-3

Santoyo’s two hit, three RBI night helps take game one

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (April 10, 2026) — The University of North Alabama baseball team opened a three-game road series against Austin Peay with a win at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park on Friday night, 9-3.

This is the Lions' third win on the road this season and the first Friday night win away from Florence. North Alabama did not snag a road win in Clarksville in 2025, but opened the 2026 series with win to break a three-way tie for the Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division lead.

North Alabama (15-18, 8-5 ASUN) had an all-around great game led by graduate left-handed pitcher Gavin Oswald and his eight strikeouts. Oswald threw 4.1 innings, earning the win while allowing only two hits and one run.

This is the second consecutive Friday night win out of the bullpen for Oswald. He is now 5-1 in the season — far and away the best mark on the team.

Oswald caught four Governors looking while snagging four more swinging en route to his highest strikeout total in the purple and white. This total ties Luke Davenport for the most in a game for a Lion this season.

The strikeout total falls just shy of his career total of 11 in a single game while at Mineral Area College in 2023. His former career high as a Lion was six strikeouts against Saint Louis on Feb. 20 this season.

Austin Peay (16-18, 7-6 ASUN) was led by Cody Airington who sat down 11 of the first 11 batters he faced until the 12th batter, Dylan Coleman, blasted his 10th home run of the season to open the scoring for UNA.

After the fourth inning, Airington did not return to the game and out came Brody Lanham. He threw just an inning and conceded the lead after he walked three batters and allowed three runs to cross.

The Lions were held scoreless for nearly four full frames until Coleman hit the league leading 43rd home run for UNA with two outs and two strikes to make it a 2-1 ball game.

His first hit of the night paved way for all but two Lions to record a hit with Petey Craska and Justin Santoyo each earning two.

Santoyo scored one run, but batted in three others as he led the team for the night cap in the category. The graduate third baseman had a double in the top of the fifth that scored Will Millard which tied the game.

Millard scored three runs of the nine that UNA provided. All but two UNA starters had at least one run under their belt in Clarksville.

UNA entered tonight's game with three stolen bases for the season; Jackson Westmoreland tallied one more for a snatched bag leveling him to 2-for-2 this year.

The Lions deployed only two pitchers tonight. Justus Agosto got his second consecutive Friday night starting designation this season. The senior right-hander threw 4.2 innings and allowed three hits while tossing four strikeouts against the Govs.

Austin Peay was limited to a .161 batting average that saw five hits. The pitching duo held APSU to its fourth-lowest batting average of the season and their sixth-fewest hits in a game. This game is the mix with games such as Cincinnati, Mississippi State and UNLV for the Govs.
