Lions earn fourth straight win with thrashing of Skyhawks, 21-3

UNA has scored 13 or more runs in last three games

MARTIN, Tenn. (April 14, 2026) — The University of North Alabama baseball team throttles UT Martin 21-3 in seven innings on Tuesday in Martin, Tenn. at Skyhawk Baseball Field.

North Alabama (18-18, 10-5 ASUN) falls just shy of the Division I record for runs in a game with 21; UNA scored 22 against Bellarmine in Louisville in 2024. This is the first time since 2013 that UNA has scored 21 runs in a game, last accomplished at home against Kentucky State.

This is the second midweek win of the season for North Alabama and their fourth consecutive win after the sweep of Austin Peay on the road this past weekend. UNA has scored 13 or more runs in the past three games with two games finished by way of mercy rule.

Dylan Coleman led the Lions with a 3-for-4 hitting day that included his third game with two home runs mashed over the wall. The designated hitter did it against Samford in Birmingham and Central Arkansas at home.

UT Martin (18-18, 5-7 OVC) took a lead in the bottom of the first 3-2 thanks to a rare Lion error. However after the first frame, the pitching crew threw six scoreless innings and seven strikeouts to hold the Skyhawks.

Alongside the 21 runs, UNA totaled 20 RBIs and 18 hits for the Tuesday contest. The 20 RBIs breaks the Division I team single game RBI record which recently was set at 16, done on two different occasions. All three of these categories are season highs for the team in 2026.

Batters hit .474 today, the best average in a game this season. When two outs were on the scoreboard, the Lions hit .417 and 14 of their 18 hits when a fellow runner was on the bases.

This is the third game with four or more home runs and the 15th game with at least two or more; this totals to 54 on the season, now just two away from tying the Division I record.

Coleman had two while Nash Rippen and Wes Walker both had one. Rippen becomes the second player to cross the double-digit home run threshold.

As Coleman led with the power numbers, Cayden Sheffield batted a perfect game as he went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. The redshirt freshman earned his first start since Lipscomb on March 13 as he took on the position of centerfield.

His four hits tied Tyler LePage, Petey Craska and Coleman for most in a single game this season.

Captain Charlie Cochran earned his first start of the season behind the dish as he racked up four walks in today's contest. The homegrown talent tied the Division I record for walks in a game, alongside former catcher and coach Levi Jensen and his captain counterpart, Craska.

All but one Lion, including pinch hitters, found their way aboard in Martin. Five batters had multi-hit games in Leighton Jenkins, Walker, Rippen, Sheffield and Coleman. Coleman had five RBIs while Rippen and Walker each had four.

John Allen Stogner earned the start and the win in today's contest with his final stat line being two strikeouts, one walk, two earned runs and four hits all in four innings on the rubber.

Hunter Bell, Jake Boynar and Josh Bowerman logged an inning each and gave up a combined four hits and zero runs to the Skyhawks to finish out the big win.
