Women’s Tennis set for ASUN Tournament opener on Thursday

No. 5 Lions prep for quarterfinals bout vs. No. 4 Austin Peay

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 15, 2026) – The No. 5 University of North Alabama women's tennis team faces No. 4 Austin Peay in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Thursday, April 16 in Fort Myers, Fla.

The
Lions will look to claim their first conference tournament title, with UNA facing its first test in the Governors. The championships will take place at the FGCU Tennis Complex with first serve set for 11 a.m. CT for fans following along in the Shoals.

The winner will advance to the semifinal round on Friday, April 17 to face the winner of No. 1 North Florida and No. 8 Bellarmine at 4 p.m. CT.

POSTSEASON DREAMS:
UNA prepares for its fourth all-time appearance and second-straight in the ASUN Championship Tournament. The 2025 edition saw the Lions march to the tournament final, defeating Austin Peay and North Florida in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. North Alabama fell to eventual champion, Stetson, in the final.

MILESTONES UNLOCKED: Four Lions received ASUN postseason awards on Monday, April 13, with senior Eeva Ristola, junior Emma Ansorge, junior Mathilde Delaney and freshman Sammie Schouten all taking home honors. Ristola was a First Team All-ASUN selection, earning the first of her career. Ansorge tallied her first career Second Team All-ASUN selection, and Schouten had an ASUN All-Freshman Team nod. Delaney was selected to the Academic All-ASUN Team for her first conference postseason honor.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
North Alabama finished the 2026 regular season with a 14-5 record. UNA won 70.2 percent of singles bouts as a team and 62.2 percent in doubles. Each player had at least three singles wins with five players totaling six or more wins. Each Lion additionally had one doubles win with six tallying six or more. Ansorge led the team with a 14-2 singles record, with Schouten ranking second with a 12-5 singles record. Delaney finished third on the team with a 11-5 record. Additional singles win totals included nine from Ristola (9-2 overall), six from junior Louise Booker (6-4), four from senior Senem Ocal (4-5) and three from freshman Farah Asaad (3-3). Ansorge and Delaney were the leaders in doubles with a 13-2 record. Asaad was a doubles specialist with a 9-6 record, followed by Ristola at 8-7. Schouten and Booker had six doubles wins, and Ocal tallied one doubles win on the campaign.

SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY: The Governors enter the postseason with a 12-5 overall record. Austin Peay won singles matches at a 62.1 percent rate and doubles at a 53.7 percent rate this season. The Governors received two postseason All-ASUN players in Yi-Ching Huang and Clemence Butavand. Huang earned Second Team All-ASUN honors and an All-Freshman nod alongside Butavand. Luca Bohlen leads in singles wins with 14, followed by Butavand (12) and two-way tie between Huang and Thiel (10). Butavand, Sophia Baranov and Emily Thiel leads with nine doubles wins. Maria Sorbello Morrison is the head coach for Austin Peay.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama goes for its third-straight victory over Austin Peay and fourth all-time in the 10th series meeting. The Lions defeated the Governors twice in 2025, including a 4-3 win in the ASUN Tournament First Round.
