Bears take advantage in extra innings, 4-2

Lion defense held Bears to seven hits, .175 batting average

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 3, 2026) — The University of North Alabama baseball team dropped the second game of the Central Arkansas series in extra innings, 4-2 at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium on Friday.

North Alabama (13-17, 6-5 ASUN) had its five-game winning streak against UCA snapped in extra innings after an error scored two runs in the 11th.

This is the second extra innings game for North Alabama this season, as the Lions now stand at 1-1 in those games — both at home against ASUN opponents. The first was a win over EKU.

Central Arkansas (15-16, 5-6 ASUN) outlasted the Lions behind a Zane Denton centerfield shot that was dropped by the defender — two runs scored, leading to the 4-2 win.

UNA held UCA to a .175 batting average through 11 innings, allowing on seven hits across four pitchers.

Tripp Patterson led the Lions with 7.0 innings pitched, his third straight game in doing such. Each time, he has one allowed two runs in all three outings. He threw three strikeouts and walked only one batter.

Kelly Crumpton went 1.1 innings with three strikeouts in the four batters faced. Luke Davenport came in to close the game with two strikeouts through the final 2.0 innings.

North Alabama hitters managed a .273 average that saw 12 hits scattered across the field. Eight of the nine starters earned a hit in today's contest.

Justin Santoyo, Wes Walker, Nash Rippen and Petey Craska logged two hits each.

Rippen's 11th inning left field double hit at the top of "Mike's Mountain" before dropping back into play. If the hit would have conquered the wall, it would have been a two-run shot to tie the game.

Will Millard earned his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning — at the time, it took the lead for the Lions, 2-1.

Gio Lonero appeared in his first game as a Lion with a pinch hit at-bat in the 10th inning; the redshirt freshman earned a walk in five pitches.
