Softball ranked in two mid-major polls this week

Lions debut at No. 18 in Softball America poll; move up to No. 22 in D1Softball poll

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 6, 2026) – The University of North Alabama softball team continues to gain national attention from prominent NCAA softball media outlets, earning a pair of national mid-major rankings Monday from D1Softball and Softball America.

For the second straight week, North Alabama was included in the D1Softball poll. Following a three-game sweep of Lipscomb this past weekend, the Lions moved up two spots to No. 22 in the poll.

UNA also made its debut in the Softball America poll this week, slotting in at No. 18. Softball America is a publication under the On3 and Rivals umbrella.

The Lions own a 27-8 record this season and lead the Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division with a 10-2 record in conference play. UNA has won eight straight conference games with back-to-back sweeps of Bellarmine and Lipscomb and two wins over Austin Peay prior to that.

The Lions have won all four ASUN series so far this season, starting with two wins over Central Arkansas before taking two of three from the Govs on the road.

UNA will have a major test coming up next weekend at EKU in Richmond, Ky. The Colonels are the defending division winner from last season and are tied with Central Arkansas for second in the standings at 7-4 this season. This weekend will be UNA's only series with EKU in the regular season.

In the latest NCAA RPI Rankings, UNA is at No. 57 out of 308 teams.

Joining North Alabama from the ASUN in the Softball America rankings was Stetson, coming in one spot back at No. 19. The Hatters also remained at No. 16 in the D1Softball poll this week, while Central Arkansas moved into the D1Softball poll this week at No. 23.

Worth noting, Belmont was the top-ranked team in both mid-major polls. The Lions split two games with Belmont earlier this season at the Samford Tournament, including a 9-5 win in the first game and a 4-3 loss on a walk-off in the second game. Despite that loss, UNA hit two home runs off All-American pitcher Maya Johnson.

UNA is currently the only ASUN team that ranks among the top two in batting average, ERA and fielding percentage. The Lions are batting .311 with a 3.57 ERA and a .969 fielding percentage with a league-low 28 errors.

UNA begins this week with a trip to Tennessee Tech on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. in Cookeville, Tenn. The EKU series will follow on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12. Both days begin at noon CT.
