TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 14, 2026) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Monday, losing to ACC opponent Florida State in a competitive 3-0 match in Tallahassee, Fla.
UNA (10-1) opened the season with a 10-0 record and carried the nation's longest win streak into Monday — tied with Pitt with 10 straight wins. The streak ends after nine sweeps and a thrilling 3-2 comeback on the road at Samford.
True freshman Anna Hoffmayer led the offense with eight kills tonight and a hitting percentage of .462. She also had two service aces and two block assists. Junior setter Kinslee McGowan had 23 assists out of the team's 26, along with one block assist.
Set 1: Florida State 25, UNA 18
The Seminoles (5-4) earned an early 9-2 lead in the first set, but the Lions got back within five with a score of 16-11 after a kill from Hoffmayer. Including the kill, the Lions went on a 4-0 run to cut it to four. The Seminoles earned the next two points, but another kill from Hoffmayer put the Lions within three with a score of 18-15. A kill from junior Reese Ricketts and an attack error put us close again at 21-18, but the Seminoles closed the set at 25-18.
North Alabama had nine kills in the first set with a .250 hitting percentage. The Lions also had three blocks and a service ace.
Set 2: Florida State 25, UNA 18
In the second set, Florida State came out strong with a 4-0 lead, but sophomore Jenna Kolosta ended the run with her second kill of the night. North Alabama then tied it up at 6-6 after a 4-0 run with help from Florida State errors and another kill from Hoffmayer. The Lions stayed within six with back-and-forth scoring for a while, but Florida State finished the set with another 25-18 score.
North Alabama had 14 digs, eight kills, eight assists and a service ace in the second set.
Set 3: Florida State 25, UNA 21
Senior Phoebe Reyes Fortunato helped the Lions open the third set strong with her second kill of the night, assisted by McGowan. North Alabama then went up 3-1 with help from another kill from Hoffmayer. Scoring was back-and-forth in the beginning, and the Lions did not give the Seminoles the lead until they went up 10-9. North Alabama immediately tied it back up with a kill from junior Dylann Garner. Florida State responded with a kill of its own, but it was met by the Lions' most explosive run yet of 6-0. North Alabama held the lead up until it was 18-18. Scoring went back-and-forth again with a tie of 20-20, but the Seminoles went on a 5-1 run to close the third set at 25-21.

The Lions will head to Lynchburg, Va. for two matches against the Liberty Flames later this week. They will play Thursday at 5 p.m. CT and Friday at 4 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played inside Liberty Arena.
