NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 27, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team wrapped up its first fall event of the season Sunday at the Lipscomb/Belmont Invite, competing against Lipscomb, Belmont, Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt over three days.  

The Lions opened the weekend Friday with two rounds of doubles competition and earned three wins in the opening round. Senior Emma Ansorge and sophomore Sammie Schouten won 7-6, seniors Mathilde Delaney and Louise Booker won 6-3 and junior Josefa Fuenzalida Salamanca and freshman Rio Wakayma won 6-1. Round two brought another win from Delaney and Booker against Belmont, 7-5.  

Singles play began Saturday morning, with the Lions facing Lipscomb in the opening round. Booker won 6-4, 6-1 against Lipscomb, while Salamanca won 6-2, 6-0.  

UNA responded in the afternoon for round two of singles against Belmont, earning five wins out of six singles bouts. Ansorge, Delaney, Booker, Wakayama and Salamanca all took wins against the Bruins.  

The final day of competition featured one round of singles and one round of doubles. UNA faced Lipscomb in the doubles round, earning one win from Salamanca and Schouten, defeating the Bisons 6-4. 

In the final singles round, Delaney took a win against MTSU, 6-0, 6-2. Wakayama also took a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lipscomb, while Salamanca took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Belmont. Ansorge and Schouten both took their singles rounds against Vanderbilt to three-sets but lost in the end.

North Alabama's next event will be Oct. 8-12 when the Lions travel to Baton Rouge, La. For the ITA Regionals hosted by LSU.
