Volleyball cruises past West Georgia in three sets

Lions record season-high .455 hitting percentage against Wolves

CARROLLTON, Ga. (September 29, 2026) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team earned a three-set win over West Georgia Tuesday night, taking down the Wolves on the road for another conference victory in Carrollton, Ga.  

This match brought North Alabama's best hitting percentage of the season, averaging .455 with 51 kills on 99 attacks and just six errors. The Lions also tied another season high with eight service aces, which they had against Jackson State on Sept. 4 and UT Martin on Sept. 5. 

Junior Dylann Garner led the offense with 14 kills and a .414 hitting percentage. Junior Reese Ricketts was right behind her with a sharp .500 hitting percentage with 12 kills. Junior Kinslee McGowan finished with 38 assists, while senior Ava Martindale led the defense with 20 digs. Freshman Anna Hoffmayer also helped the defensive efforts, recording a team-high four blocks.  Ricketts, McGowan and sophomore Ally Greenwell added nine digs each. 

 




SET ONE: UNA 25, UWG 14 

North Alabama opened the match with a strong first set, hitting .400 with 17 kills. The Lions took an early lead of 5-2 before the Wolves pulled within one at 6-5. UNA responded with a 5-1 run to build an 11-6 advantage and eventually reach an 11-point first set victory.  

SET TWO: UNA 25, UWG 15 

The Lions posted their best offensive performance in the second set, recording 20 kills without committing a single attack error to hit for .556. UNA jumped out to a 7-3 lead to begin the set, followed by West Georgia cutting the deficit to 8-6. UNA responded with a 6-1 run to take a 14-7 advantage. The Lions continued to pull away, extending the lead to 20-12 before finishing the set with five of the last eight points.  

SET THREE: UNA 25, UWG 12 

North Alabama opened the third set explosively, jumping out to an immediate 9-0 lead. The Lions maintained control the entire set, extending the lead to 15-3 and later 19-4. West Georgia managed to cut the lead to 12, but the Lions closed the set with a 13-point deficit. 

 




UP NEXT 

North Alabama plays Saturday, Oct. 3 at CB&S Bank Arena for a home conference match against Central Arkansas. This is UNA's annual "Dig Pink" match where fans are encouraged to where pink to support breast cancer awareness.
