LA JOLLA, Calif. (September 6, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team finished its west coast adventure with a draw against UC San Diego, 0-0, in La Jolla, Calif. at Triton Soccer Stadium.
North Alabama (3-1-2) had 10 shots with five on target against the Triton defense. The Lions had two shots at halftime but returned to outshoot UCSD eight to five in the final 45 minutes of play.
UC San Diego (3-2-2) had 16 shots with nine on target in the draw. The Tritons earned five corners while holding UNA, the United Athletic Conference metric leader, to just one.
This was the most shots in a game for UC San Diego that did not finish as a win. UCSD beat Utah Tech, 4-2, with 17 shots and Pacific, 2-0, on 28 shots.
The Lions bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season to Cal Baptist on Thursday. This is the second clean sheet of the season from goalkeeper Emily Dorfman who had nine saves — a season high.
This week was the first two games against California based teams in the 30-year program history; knowingly, it was also the first trip out west for North Alabama to compete.
Junior forward Anna Fugarino, a UAC Player of the Week this season, led the team with three shots with two on target to lead North Alabama. Midfielders Monica Yoder and Maya Kelsch each had two shots as well.
Captain Adelyn Speight and freshman forward Catherine Schniederhahn each had one shot on target.
Nineteen Lions found playing time in this one as five players competed full time in Speight, Lilly Ford, Avery Smith, Gracie Tyrrell and Dorfman.
North Alabama returns to the Cox Creek Sports Complex against Chattanooga on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in Florence, Ala.
