ABOUT LAST GAME: UNA dropped its first of two games in Florida on Thursday night, as the Lions fell to FGCU by a 3-0 final in Fort Myers. FGCU got out quickly on UNA as the Eagles scored their first goal in the ninth minute. Florida Gulf Coast added another goal in the 27th minute to jump to a 2-0 halftime lead. FGCU added a third goal in period two to finish off the day. The Lions and junior goalkeeper
Allanah Blye saw 20 shots on the night with 11 on goal. Blye had four saves in each half. Senior forward
Haley Patterson, the team's season-high shot leader, added two more to her total this season. Sophomore
Giada Aldini added two shots and two on goal for the night, as well, as she slots in behind Patterson for second on the team in shots.
SCOUTING THE HATTERS: The Hatters are 2-7-0 in the conference which is best for ninth in the ASUN. They played Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Central Arkansas in their previous three outings, losing all three by a combined score of 7-1. Senior forward Lea Alexander leads the way for the Hatters in five of the six offensive categories. She leads with 35 shots, 16 shots on goal, 12 points, five goals and three game winning goals.
PATT(ERSON) ON THE BACK: Senior forward
Haley Patterson has kicked it into second gear as conference play continues. On the season, she has 28 total shots with 14 shots on goal. She leads all other Lions by 11 in shots and doubles the next closest teammate in SOG. Most notably, she contributed 20 of her 28 shots in ASUN play alone. Nine of her 14 shots came against conference opponents, both are team highs for the year.
FUTURE IS BRIGHT: The latest recruiting class is already paying dividends for Walker as several have already contributed in playing time. Freshmen such as midfielders
Anna Fugarino,
Gizelle El Assal and
Emerson Nieroda have all made starts on the year and played in at least 13 or more games. Others that have contributed to the season are forwards
Abigail Witten and
Ella Remy and defender
Langley Wallace. Wallace has earned the starting nod in fifth straight games.
NEXT GAME: The Lions finish the regular season where it started in Florence, Ala. for their final home game against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Cox Creek Sports Complex. This will be UNA's senior day with eight seniors to be honored before the match.
