UNA VOLLEYBALL TEAM FALLS 3-1 AT VALDOSTA STATE

VALDOSTA, Ga., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team dropped a key Gulf South Conference match to Valdosta State Friday evening on the road. The Blazers used the 25-14, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21 victory to jump UNA in the league standings and take over sole possession of third place.

The loss broke a four-match winning streak by the Lions. With two conference road matches remaining, UNA now owns a 17-10 overall record with a 13-5 mark in GSC play.

On Friday, VSU used solid play at the net to avenge an earlier-season loss to the Lions. The Blazers hit .234 for the match and recorded 13 total team blocks. The Lions were held to a .064 showing with no blocks.

Megan Wadsworth led North Alabama with 12 kills on the evening. The freshman from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin hit .360 for the match and reached double figures in kills for the eighth time this season. LeAnna Lloyd added 10 kills while setter Andrea De Leon turned in 42 assists.

Defensively, Ashtyn Kapovich totaled 18 digs on the day while De Leon was close behind with 16 digs for the Lions. Shantel Federick rounded out the top defensive performers with 12 digs.

Valdosta State (17-7 overall, 12-4 GSC) was led by Lea Jaklen's 13 kills and 10 digs.

UNA will play at West Florida Saturday at 4 p.m. The Argonauts are currently in second place in the GSC with a 13-3 conference record. One of those three loss was to the Lions on Sept. 27, at Flowers Hall. North Alabama will close out the regular season Nov. 4, at West Alabama.
