FLORENCE – Four players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team defeated Fisk 89-54 Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. The win gives the Lions a 1-2 record on the season as head coach Bobby Champagne improves to 13-2 in home openers at UNA.

UNA used a solid defensive effort throughout the night, holding the Bulldogs to 29.8 percent from the floor and forcing 26 turnovers on the night. For the game, Fisk connected on just 17 shots from the floor and made only three shots from three-point range.

The Lions led 41-19 at the break, the same score they trailed Tampa at the half of their previous game. Fisk got the lead to 16 early in the second half, using a 12-6 run to make the score 47-31 with 15:54 remaining. North Alabama, however, responded with a 7-0 run to make it 54-31 and the lead remained at least 20 points the rest of the way. The largest lead of the night came in the closing seconds when a free throw by Dakota Holtzclaw made it 89-52.

Bilal Richardson led all scorers with 14 points for UNA. Freshmen Jetani Hunter and Tavaras Tolliver added 13 points each while Holtzclaw rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 11 points. For the game, 10 different players scored for North Alabama.

Kameron Foster led Fisk (2-4) with eight points on the night.

UNA held a 46-41 edge in rebounding and scored 12 second-chance points. The Lions also struggled at the free throw line, connecting on just 20-of-42 attempts.

The Lions will host Oakwood Thursday at 8 p.m. in the second game of a double-header. The UNA women's team will play Tuskegee at 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
