RUSSELLVILLE, Ark., – No. 18 Arkansas Tech shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away for an 87-65 home victory over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Tuesday evening. Fatima Adams scored 33 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Golden Suns, who improve to 4-0 on the season.
UNA (1-4) led 22-18 at the end of the first quarter and trailed only 39-34 at the half. ATU, however, used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to grab a 62-45 lead and the Lions got within single digits only once the rest of the way.
After a three-point basket by Katelyn Kostelc cut the deficit to 64-55 early in the fourth quarter, the Golden Suns used a 9-2 run to push the lead to 18 with 6:26 remaining. The Lions never threatened again.
KeKe Gunter scored a career-high 23 points to lead UNA. The sophomore from Columbus, Ga., has reached double figures in each of the Lions' first five games this season. Shunice Herron added 11 points on the night for North Alabama.
UNA will travel to Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend for a pair of games against Division I teams. The Lions will play in the Teresa Phillips Thanksgiving Classic, facing Lipscomb Saturday at 1 p.m. and host Tennessee State Sunday at 2 p.m.
