UNA MEN GET 73-71 EXHIBITION WIN OVER REDHAWKS

FLORENCE – A jumper by Dimarrio Jackson with 4.6 seconds remaining lifted the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 73-71 victory over Martin Methodist Sunday afternoon in exhibition play at Flowers Hall. The victory is the only exhibition game of the season for the Lions, who open the 2015-16 season next weekend at the GSC/SSC Challenge in Saint Leo, Fla.

Jackson's winning shot came seconds after Caleb Chowbay hit one of two free throws for Martin Methodist to tie the score at 71-71. The RedHawks had erased a 15-point second half deficit and were in position to steal a win on the road.

UNA led 62-47 with 11:45 left when Martin Methodist began the rally. Chowbay, who scored a game-high 22 points, cut the deficit to 69-68 with a basket with 1:46 left. After a turnover by the Lions, Toderick Davis gave the RedHawks their first lead of the second half with a putback with just over a minute remaining.

A runner by John Fletcher in the final minute regained the one-point lead for UNA before Chowbay connected once from the free throw line to tie the game with 20 seconds remaining.

Ten different players scored for UNA with Bilal Richardson led the team with 14 points and nine rebounds. Fletcher was close behind with 13 points. Jackson, Jeff Hodge and Da'Shaun Griffin added nine points each.

After shooting 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half, the Lions were held to 7-of-28 shooting over the final 20 minutes. UNA also connected on nine three-point baskets in the opening half before going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc in the second half.

North Alabama will open the season against Saint Leo on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. (EST). The Lions will take on Tampa at 2 p.m. (EST) the following day. The team's home opener will be a 6 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday, Nov. 17, against Fisk.
