UNA WOMEN ROUT OAKWOOD 101-48

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team shot over 50 percent from the floor in each half during a 101-48 win over Oakwood Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The victory in the team's home opener gives UNA a 3-0 record to start the season.
 
Freshman Ivy Wallen scored 18 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 24 points as the Lions raced out to an early lead and never looked back.
 
UNA started the game on a 13-3 run. After a jumper by Oakwood cut the deficit to 13-5 at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter, Wallen responded with a basket at the other end and the lead remained double digits the rest of the game. North Alabama led 29-14 at the end of the first quarter and carried a 28-23 lead into the half.
 
The lead reached 30 midway through the third quarter on a jumper by Katelyn Nunley with 6:42 remaining. Less than four minutes later, a layup by Emma Wallen gave the Lions a 71-31 lead.
 
The largest lead of the night came in the final two minutes when a three-point basket by Savannah Stults put the Lions over the century mark. The shot from the right wing gave UNA a 101-46 lead with 1:36 remaining.
 
Stults and Jaclyn Heath each finished with 12 points for the Lions. UNA also held a rebounding edge for the first time this season, pulling down a 46-35 advantage on the boards.
 
April Felix led Oakwood (4-2) with 16 points on the night.
 
North Alabama will host Fisk on Nov. 23. Tip-off time is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
