GUNTER LEADS LIONS TO 88-42 WIN OVER FISK

FLORENCE – KeKe Gunter scored 22 points to lead the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to an 88-42 victory over Fisk University Wednesday evening at Flowers Hall. The win keeps UNA perfect on the season with a 4-0 record.
 
For the game, UNA shot 45.6 percent from the floor and forced 24 Fisk turnovers. North Alabama turned the Bulldog miscues into 32 points on the night. The Lions also held a commanding 57-34 rebounding advantage and scored 17 second-chance points.
 
Gunter, a junior from Columbus, Ga., helped the Lions get off to a fast start with eight points in the first quarter. She scored the game's first six points as UNA took a 20-8 lead at the end of the opening period. The Lions stretched the lead to 41-18 by the half, and the lead only continued to grow over the final two quarters.
 
A jumper by Gunter with 6:08 to play in the third quarter made the score 50-20. The lead reached 40 in the fourth quarter when a three-point basket by Emma Wallen made the score 71-31 with 7:26 remaining. The largest lead of the night came in the final minute of play when a basket by Madelyn Lindsey pushed the lead to 88-41.
 
Wallen, Katelyn Nunley and Ivy Wallen added 11 points each to round out a balanced scoring attack for the Lions. Michaela DeKilder also pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds while Jaclyn Heath had eight assists. Gunter also had four rebounds, two assists and four steals on the night.
 
Lashae Brown led Fisk (0-7) with 18 points.
 
UNA will return to action Saturday at home against Trevecca Nazarene. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
