FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama overcame an early 2-0 deficit and rolled to a 7-2 win over West Florida in the final game of a Gulf South Conference baseball series at Mike Lane Field.
UNA took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning and then broke it open with four more in the fifth. With the win, the Lions improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the GSC. West Florida is 11-7 and 6-3.
UNA starter
Riley Sanderson gave up two runs in the first inning but shutdown the Argonauts the rest of the way, allowing just two runs on nine hits over seven and two thirds innings. He walked two and struckout nine. Sanderson got the win to improve to 4-0.
Blake Talley pitched one and a third scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
After UWF jumped out to a 2-0 lead on four singles, UNA got a run back in the second when
Dylan Calhoun singled and scored on an RBI-single by
Peyton Sockwell.
In the fourth,
Taylor Hayes hit a lead-off home run to tie the game at 2-2. Calhoun then singled and later scored on a balk to give UNA a 3-2 lead.
Kevin Hall singled to open the fifth. Hayes then walked with two outs and Calhoun singled in Hall.
Heath Wood followed with an RBI single and an error by UWF allowed an additional run to score and sent Wood to third. Wood then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2.
The Lions out-hit UWF 12 to nine, led by Calhoun with three hits.
UNA hosts Lemoyne-Owen on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
