FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama scored 13 runs in the opener and then made a late inning rally in the nightcap to sweep a Gulf South Conference double-header from Mississippi College, 13-2 and 3-2.
With the sweep the Lions improve to 18-17 overall and 10-13 in the GSC. Mississippi College falls to 12-22 and 5-17.
Riley Sanderson threw his first complete-game of the season in the opener for UNA, allowing just two runs on nine hits over seven innings. He walked two and struckout eight in pushing his record to 5-3 on the season. It was also his 19
th career win with the Lions.
UNA got two runs in the first inning and added four in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth in the sixth for the run-away win.
Kyle Hubbuch's two-run single in the first inning put UNA on top to stay. Other key hits included a three-run double by
Davis Elliott in the fourth and a two-run
Taylor Hayes home run in the sixth.

Jake Fraze (5-3), the first of three Mississippi College pitchers in the game, took the loss for the Choctaws.
In the nightcap, Mississippi College scored two runs off UNA starter
Devan Traglia in the second inning on a walk and two hits. Traglia managed to hold the line from there and remained in the game into the sixth before giving way to
Dylan Stewart. Stewart struckout the final batter of the sixth to hold the game at 2-0 and the Lions responded with a three-run bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Hall hit a home run to leadoff the frame. It was his sixth homer of the season. Hayes followed with a double and Hubbuch was hit-by-pitch, giving UNA two runners on base with no outs. MC starter Samuel Harrison appeared to be about to work out of the jam after recording two outs but freshman
Conner Kiser ripped a single to right to drive in Hayes with the tying run. Reliever Parker Watts then came on and threw away a pickoff attempt at first base that allowed Hubbuch to score the eventual winning run.
Blake Talley came on to pitch a scoreless seventh, although the Choctaws put two runners on base, to record his second save of the year. Stewart (2-0) got the win, striking out the only batter that he faced. Traglia allowed two runs on five hits over five and two-third innings.
Calhoun had two hits in each game and extended his hitting streak to 20 consecutive games. He has also now reached base safely in 27 consecutive games.
The Lions and Choctaws will play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mike Lane Field.
