UNA WOMEN GET 57-49 ROAD WIN AT DELTA STATE

CLEVELAND, Miss., – North Alabama moved into a first-place tie with West Florida in the Gulf South Conference with a 57-49 win at Delta State on Thursday. Ivy Wallen scored a game-high 25 points as the Lions handed DSU its first home loss of the season.
 
KeKe Gunter added 17 points for UNA, which improves to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in GSC play. The win also marked the first victory at Delta State since rallying for a 59-58 win during the 2012-13 campaign.
 
Neither team led by more than six points until the closing seconds. After a jumper by the Lady Statesmen tied the contest at 49-49 with 3:29 remaining, UNA closed the game on an 8-0 run. The game featured eight ties and 13 lead changes.
 
After DSU tied the score late in the game, the Lions were able to get defensive stops while Wallen connected on 5-of-6 free throw attempts to give North Alabama a 54-49 advantage. Following another defensive rebound by the Lions, KeKe Gunter scored to give UNA a seven-point advantage with 1:05 to play.
 
Delta State last chance to make a run ended in the closing minute when Emma Wallen blocked a three-point attempt. Ivy Wallen tracked down the loose ball and drew a foul with seven seconds remaining. She sank 1-of-2 free throws to account for the final score.
 
North Alabama shot 34 percent from the floor. The Lions connected on 4-of-18 three-point attempts, including three in the first half to take a 27-26 lead at the break. UNA held a 42-33 rebounding advantage led by Madelyn Lindsey's game-high nine boards.
 
Kaelin Kneeland led Delta State (6-7 overall, 3-5 GSC) with 20 points on the night.
 
UNA will play at Mississippi College on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on the MC campus in Clinton, Miss.
