UNA WOMEN FALL AT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE

CLINTON, Miss., – Mississippi College used dominating performances in the second and fourth quarters to secure a 78-63 home win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play. The loss breaks a three-game winning streak for the Lions, who fall to 12-3 overall and 6-3 in league action.
 
The Choctaws shot 51.9 percent from the floor while limiting UNA to 21-of-73 (28.8 percent) on the day.
 
North Alabama led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter before a 21-9 run by MC gave the home team the lead for good. The Choctaws led 35-28 at the half and led by as many as 10 in the third quarter before the Lions used a run of their own to get back in the game.
 
Facing a 51-41 deficit, UNA got back-to-back three-point baskets by Emma Wallen and KeKe Gunter to close the gap to four. After a basket by the Choctaws, Ivy Wallen connected on two free throws to make the score 52-49 with 36 seconds left in the period.
 
The Lions, however, would get no closer. Mississippi College used a 7-0 run early in the fourth quarter to regain a double-digit lead. UNA got within four with 6:01 remaining, but would not hit a field goal until the final minute of play. By that time, MC had built a 15-point advantage. The Choctaws outscored UNA 24-14 in the final quarter to seal the win.
 
Ashley Minor and Kelley Allen combined for 49 points to lead MC (7-5 overall, 5-4 GSC). Minor's 26 points led all scorers.
 
Ivy Wallen led UNA with 23 points and 11 rebounds on the day. Gunter finished with 14 points while Michaela DeKilder pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lions.
 
UNA will return home to host Lee on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
