UNA MEN ROUT LEE 83-66

FLORENCE – Tavaras Tolliver scored 23 points to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to an 83-66 win over Lee Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The second straight victory gives the Lions a 9-7 overall record with a 4-6 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
 
UNA used a big rebounding advantage over the Flames to collect 22 second-chance points on the night. Austin Timms recorded a game-high 13 boards, reaching double figures in the category for the fourth time this season.
 
After taking a 38-26 lead into the half, the Lions maintained the advantage over the final 20 minutes of play. Lee got within four midway through the period before a 14-2 UNA run stretched the lead back to double digits for good.
 
Leading 53-49, UNA got a jumper from Timms to start the spurt. Free throws by Jeff Hodge and Johnell Ginnie extended the lead before a basket in the lane by Ginnie gave UNA a 61-49 lead with 6:22 remaining. The teams traded free throws before the Lions pushed the lead to 16 on a jumper by Tolliver and two more foul shots by Hodge at the 3:36 mark.
 
The largest lead came with 1:27 remaining on a transition basket by DeAndre McKinnie to give UNA a 76-55 advantage.
 
Hodge finished with 13 points for the Lions while Ginnie and McKinnie added 12 points each.
 
Keevin Tyus led Lee (9-7 overall, 5-5 GSC) with 22 points.
 
UNA will travel to Shorter on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (EST) on the SU campus in Rome, Ga.
