Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

UNA WOMEN ROUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 110-81

FLORENCE – Another big night by sisters Emma and Ivy Wallen resulted in the highest scoring game of the season for the University of North Alabama women's basketball team. The duo combined for 60 points Thursday in the 110-81 victory. The win avenges a 15-point road loss to the Choctaws 12 days earlier and gives UNA a 15-3 overall record and 9-3 mark in GSC play. The Lions have now won five of their last six games, including three straight.

Emma and Ivy each turned in career-high numbers in scoring on the night. Emma Wallen hit six three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 31 points. Ivy added seven field goals and a 14-for-17 showing at the free throw line to wrap up a 29-point effort.

The game marked the second time UNA reached 100 points this season after recording a 101-48 victory over Oakwood on Nov. 17 at Flowers Hall. The contest also set a new record for combined points, surpassing a 185-point game in 1987 where the Lions lost 108-77 at Valdosta State.

North Alabama seized control midway through the second quarter. Leading by nine with 9:30 remaining, the Lions used a 13-4 run to grab a 39-21 lead. UNA still led by 18 at the 2:44 mark when consecutive technical fouls on Mississippi College's Cortrice Golden resulted in an ejection.

Emma Wallen then hit 3-of-4 free throws as the Lions closed the half on a 12-6 run to take a 57-33 lead into the break.

UNA pushed the lead to 30-plus in the closing minutes of the third quarter. KeKe Gunter scored five points during an 11-2 spurt as the Lions took an 83-48 advantage with 2:29 to play in the period. The largest lead of the night came at the 5:40 mark of the fourth quarter when a basket by Brynn Holden gave the Lions a 102-59 lead.

For the game, North Alabama shot 55.6 percent from the floor, including a 12-of-26 (46.2 percent) showing from three-point range. Emma Wallen finished the game 6-for-11 from long range.

Michaela DeKilder also recorded her third double-double in the last six games with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Katelyn Nunley added 10 points while Ivy Wallen and Jaclyn Heath produced seven assists each.

Kelley Allen led Mississippi College (9-7 overall, 6-6 GSC) with 22 points.

UNA will host Delta State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
