VOLLEYBALL RANKED FOURTH IN SOUTH REGION

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team is ranked No. 4 in the initial NCAA Division II South Region rankings for the 2017 season. The Lions are 22-6 overall, including a 10-2 record in Gulf South Conference play and an 12-4 in-region record.
 
Teams from the Sunshine State Conference represented the top two spots, while West Florida claimed a No. 3 ranking. Palm Beach Atlantic, ranked sixth in the latest AVCA national Top-25 poll, is first. Florida Southern is second. West Florida and North Alabama follow, with Saint Leo rounding out the top five.
 
Eckerd is sixth, followed by Lee, West Alabama, UAH and Shorter.
 
The regional rankings determine which teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Eight teams make the field, including conference champions from the GSC, SSC and the Southern Intercollegiate Conference as an automatic bid, followed by the next five highest-ranking teams.
 
The NCAA will release future regional polls on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 with the final NCAA bracket coming out on Monday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. (EST) during a live online selection show. The top seed will host the eight-team regional, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Dec. 8-10 in Pensacola, Florida.
