LIONS TOP LEE TO ADVANCE TO GSC CHAMPIONSHIP

PENSACOLA, Fla., – After dropping the opening set of it's Gulf South Conference semi-final against Lee, the University of North Alabama volleyball team posted three straight wins to secure the 3-1 victory and advance to the conference championship for the fourth consecutive season. The Lions (27-6) will play at West Florida Sunday at 2 p.m. for the title.
 
Against Lee, Lexie Bradley and Jayden Davila-McClary each turned in double-doubles for the Lions in the 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 victory. Bradley had 22 kills and 11 digs while Davila-McClary notched 47 assists and a career-high 21 digs on the day.
 
UNA let an early 10-5 lead slip away in the opening set as Lee rallied. The Flames grabbed their first lead at 20-19 and finished the game by score five of the next eight points.
 
Lee led 9-6 in the second set before the Lions took control with a 5-0 run. Back-to-back service aces by Libby Jump gave UNA an 11-9 lead and the Lions never trailed again.
 
North Alabama fought off a late rally by the Flames to hold on in the third set. UNA led 21-16 before four straight points by Lee cut the lead to a single point. Lee managed to tie the game at 23-23 before Bradley ended the game with a kill, followed by a service ace.
 
In the final set, UNA turned an early 6-3 deficit into a comfortable lead. Jessica Austin had five kills during a 12-2 run for the Lions. After stretching the lead to double digits, UNA ended the fourth set the same way as the third with a kill and service ace by Bradley.
 
Austin finished with 16 kills and a .394 hitting percentage. Defensively, Ashtyn Kapovich led five UNA players with double-digit dig totals with 23 digs. She now has 602 digs on the season. Following Davila-McClary, Sina Faulk had 17 digs. Bradley and Ava Carnley turned in 11 digs each.
 
In its final season in the GSC, North Alabama is seeking its 19th conference title. The Lions will be making their league-leading 26th appearance in the championship match. It will be the third straight year UNA has faced West Florida for the title. UNA is 80-27 all-time in the GSC tournament.
