UNA WOMEN GET 83-73 WIN AT WEST ALABAMA

LIVINGSTON – Ivy Wallen and KeKe Gunter combined for 48 points to lead the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to an 83-73 Gulf South Conference road win at West Alabama on Saturday. The win keeps UNA a half game ahead of West Georgia for fourth place in the GSC standings at 11-7 in league play.
 
West Alabama scored the game's first 14 points before the Lions found their offensive rhythm. A basket by Gunter with 6:02 remaining in the opening period represented the first points for UNA. The Tigers led 16-3 before a 12-5 run cut the lead to six points late in the first quarter. UWA added a free throw in the closing seconds to grab a 22-15 lead.
 
Michael DeKilder started a 15-4 UNA run with a jumper to start the second quarter. A steal by Savannah Stults later led to a transition basket by Gunter as the Lions took their first lead of the game at 27-26 with 6:36 remaining in the half.
 
North Alabama (17-7 overall) was ahead 41-36 at the break and maintained the lead throughout the final two quarter. Wallen scored 18 of her game-high 28 points in the second half to pace the offense.
 
UWA got within four midway through the fourth quarter. After a basket by the Tigers made the score 64-60 with 7:11 remaining, UNA responded with a 9-0 run to push the lead back to double digits.
 
Gunter finished with 20 points while DeKilder had six points and 10 rebounds for the Lions.
 
UNA will host GSC-leading West Florida on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
