UNION RALLIES FOR 75-63 OVER UNA WOMEN

JACKSON, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team struggled to score in the second half of a 75-63 loss at Union on Thursday. The loss, along with West Georgia's win on the same day, eliminates the Lions' chances to host a first-round Gulf South Conference playoff game on Tuesday.
 
After taking a 39-35 lead into the break, UNA did not score for the first 6:11 of the third quarter and did not connect from the floor until 3:24 remaining in the period. Union (16-11 overall, 11-10 GSC) used a 13-0 run to grab the lead before holding off a run by the Lions early in the fourth quarter.
 
A three-point basket by KeKe Gunter gave (18-9 overall, 12-9 GSC) UNA its first field goal of the second half, and cut Bulldogs lead to 44-48. Union, however, stretched the lead to 55-49 by the end of the third quarter.
 
Gunter again connected from three-point range at the 6:37 mark to give UNA a 59-57 lead. The Bulldogs, however, scored on their next possession to tie the game and start a 9-0 run of their own. The Lions shot 29 percent from the floor in the second half and made their last field goal with 3:53 remaining.
 
Gunter led UNA with 22 points. Jaclyn Heath added a season-high 16 points for the Lions. Emma Wallen rounded out the top scorers for North Alabama with 11 points.
 
UNA will close the regular season on Saturday at Christian Brothers. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Canale Arena on the CBU campus.
