CBU PULLS AWAY FOR 96-80 WIN OVER UNA MEN

MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Christian Brothers used a late 15-3 run to pull away from the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Saturday afternoon in a 96-80 home win. With the loss, UNA wraps up the regular season with a 14-14 record and will travel to face top-seeded and regular-season champion Valdosta State Tuesday in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.

Jeff Larkin hit six three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 32 points to lead CBU, which closes out the season with a 17-11 mark and will host West Florida Tuesday as the No. 4 seed.

UNA countered with five players in double figures. DeAndre McKinnie led the Lions with 20 points, reaching double digits for the fifth straight game, including his third consecutive 20-plus point performance.

After CBU took a 42-37 lead into the break, North Alabama was able to stay within striking distance throughout the majority of the second half. A basket by Jeff Hodge cut the Bucs lead to 70-65 with 5:39 remaining. The Lions, however, would not connect from the floor again for more than four minutes when CBU made its move.

Christian Brothers started its late run with a three-point basket by Adam Dieball. Another three-pointer by Larkin and a 7-for-8 showing at the free throw line extended the CBU lead. A transition basket at the 1:33 mark gave the Bucs an 85-68 lead.

CBU finished the game 21-of-28 from the foul line. UNA made 18-of-22 free throw attempts.

Hodge finished with 17 points for UNA. Tavaras Tolliver added 12 points while Dimario Jackson and Austin Timms tossed in 10 points each. Timms also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Tip-off time for UNA's opening-round game at Valdosta State is set for 7 p.m. (CST) at the Complex on the VSU campus.
