UNA WOMEN DOWN WEST GEORGIA 74-63

CARROLLTON, Ga., – Ivy Wallen scored 34 points to lead the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to a 74-63 Gulf South Conference road win at West Georgia on Saturday. With the win, UNA is now 15-1 on the season with an 8-1 mark in GSC play.
 
UNA led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before holding off a late rally by the Wolves. A basket by Brittany Panetti gave the Lions a 42-29 lead with 7:16 remaining in the third and UNA took a 54-43 advantage into the final period.
 
UNA, however, made only four field goals in the fourth quarter while the home team chipped away at the lead. The Wolves hits one of two free throws at the 3:07 mark to pull to within two at 61-59 and cap an 11-2 run.
 
Wallen, however, made sure the Lions retained the lead. The sophomore scored four straight points on two free throws and a jumper to push the lead to 65-59. After a free throw by the Wolves, she hit another jumper in the paint to give UNA a 67-60 lead with 1:57 remaining.
 
West Georgia could not connect from the floor again until the closing seconds while UNA went 7-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
 
Emma Wallen added 15 points for the Lions. The two sisters each played the entire 40 minutes, as the team endured three players fouling out. Panetti, Michaela DeKilder and Kenysha Coulson each fouled out in the fourth quarter. DeKilder added nine points and 13 rebounds for UNA.
 
Both teams struggled at the free throw line in a game that featured 24 fouls by each team. UNA was 27-of-38 from the charity stripe while West Georgia hit 21-of-33 foul shots. UWG held a slim 48-47 rebounding advantage.
 
A'Kia Harris led the Wolves (9-6 overall, 5-3 GSC) with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
 
UNA will play at Auburn-Montgomery on Monday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on the AUM campus.
