LIONS RALLY TO TOP CHARGERS 75-72

HUNTSVILLE – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to rally for a 75-72 road victory Saturday at Alabama Huntsville. Kendarius Smith scored a game-high 24 points, including five three-point baskets as the Lions improved to 10-8 overall record, including a 5-6 mark in Gulf South Conference play.

UAH led 34-31 at the half and had stretched the lead to 65-55 at the 7:33 mark. The Chargers, however, missed their next eight shots from the floor and went scoreless for more than six minutes to open the door for the comeback. A three-point basket by Smith began a 14-0 run that started the rally.

After four straight points from Jeff Hodge and another basket by Smith, a jumper by Tavaras Tolliver gave UNA its first lead of the second half at 66-65 with 4:18 remaining. The Lions pushed the lead to four before UAH stopped the streak with a basket to make the score 69-67 with 1:23 to play.

After a floater by Hodge gave UNA a four-point lead in the final minute, each team hit two free throws. The Lions got one more defensive stop and Hodge put the game out of reach with two free throws with seven seconds remaining. The Chargers connected on a three-pointer at the buzzer to account for the final score.

Tolliver and Sharwyn McGee finished with 12 points each while Hodge also reached double figures with 10 points for UNA. Kendall Stafford also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.

North Alabama outrebounded the Chargers 48-27 and also held a commanding 30-16 advantage in points in the paint. UAH was 16-of-45 from three-point range.

Chayse Elliott led UAH (12-7 overall, 5-6 GSC) with 21 points.

UNA will host West Florida on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
