LIONS FALL TO NO. 18 BUCCANEERS

FLORENCE – No. 18 Christian Brothers shot 57.9 percent from the floor and had four players reach double figures in an 81-67 win over North Alabama Tuesday in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action. With the loss, UNA falls to 8-7 overall and 3-5 in GSC play.
 
After taking a 39-35 lead into the break, CBU stretched the lead to double digits in the first five minutes of the second half and maintained the advantage the rest of the way. The Bucs led by as many as 19 before holding off a late UNA rally and secure the win.
 
A three-point basket gave the visitors a 70-51 lead at the 9:33 mark before UNA made one last move. A basket by Sharwyn McGee and two three-pointers by Jeff Hodge and Kendarius Smtih got the lead to 10 at 75-65 with 2:42 remaining.
 
CBU, however, answered with four straight points, with Adam Dieball recording assists on both baskets to stretch the lead back to 14 at the 1:31 mark. UNA could not connect from the floor again.
 
Smith finished with 16 points to lead the Lions. McGee added 14 points while Kendall Stafford had 12 points and nine rebounds. For the game, UNA shot 38.1 percent from the floor and held a 37-30 rebounding advantage.
 
Dieball turned in game-high numbers with 19 points and 11 assists for Christian Brothers, which improves to 13-2 overall and 5-2 in GSC play.
 
UNA will play at West Georgia on Jan. 13. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (EST) at the Coliseum on the UWG campus in Carrollton, Ga.
