LIPSCOMB RALLIES TO TOP UNA VOLLEYBALL 3-1

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team won the opening set against Lipscomb before the Bisons rallied to post a 3-1 Tuesday evening in Flowers Hall. With the 25-23, 20-25, 11-25, 18-25 loss, the Lions fall to 2-17 overall and 0-10 in ASUN Conference play.
 
The Lions hit just .085 for the match but used a strong defensive performance to stay within reach. UNA recorded 10 total team blocks while Genesis Benítez recorded a career-high 30 digs. North Alabama also held ASUN leader Carlyle Nusbaum to a .083 hitting percentage on the night.
 
Nusbaum, did manage a match-high 15 kills on 48 swings with 11 attack errors. She added 13 digs and six service aces for Lipscomb (13-9 overall, 8-2 ASUN).
 
UNA raced out to an early lead before holding off a late rally by the Bisons to win the opening set. Malaisia Stallworth led the way with four kills and three blocks in the frame.
 
Lipscomb held on for a close win in the second set before taking control of the match with a dominating performance in the third game. The Bisons hit .364 in the frame while UNA managed only seven kills on 28 swings.
 
In the final set, Lipscomb led 15-12 before using an 8-2 run to pull away.
 
Stallworth and Christina Ellwanger each had eight kills to lead the Lions. Stallworth was also one of three UNA players with five blocks, joining Madison Ruble and Nura Abakar. Jayden Davila-McClary also finished with 25 assists and 14 digs for the match.
 
UNA will hit the road for its next two ASUN matches, playing at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday before traveling to face Liberty to days later.
