LIONS DOWN ALABAMA STATE 68-42 TO STAY UNBEATEN

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team forced 33 turnovers against Alabama State Monday night and remained undefeated on the season with a 68-42 home win. Three players reached double figures as the Lions (5-0) knocked off the first Division I team to visit Flowers Hall since UNA made the transition to Division I and the ASUN Conference.
 
Both teams struggled to score early. Alabama State made just one field goal over the final 5:59 of the first quarter as the Lions took an early 17-7 lead.
 
A 12-0 run to start the second quarter gave UNA control. Emma Wallen started the scoring with a three-point basket and Ansley Eubank added a trey and a layup to give North Alabama a 29-7 lead at the 5:58 mark. ASU got within 13 in the final minute before the Lions took a 32-18 lead into the half.
 
Alabama State scored six of the first eight points of the third quarter, but could get no closer than 10 points. Savannah Stults keyed a 14-2 run with six points. Her basket with 1:18 remaining in the quarter gave UNA a 48-26 lead. The Hornets could get no closer than 19 in the fourth quarter.
 
Brittany Panetti finished the game with 17 points and nine rebounds to lead North Alabama. Eubank added 14 points while Ivy Wallen tossed in 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
 
For the game UNA scored 30 points off turnovers. Although the Lions committed 22 turnovers themselves, ASU was only able to turn the miscues into 13 points.
 
Jayla Crawford led Alabama State (0-4) with 17 points.
 
UNA will hit the road next for two games at the NJIT Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 24-25. The Lions will take on Southeast Missouri State on Saturday before facing Western Carolina on Sunday at the Wellness and Events Center on the NJIT campus in New Jersey.
