UNA WOMEN ROUT UAH 80-46 FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

FLORENCE – Brittany Panetti led four North Alabama players in double figures with 22 points as the Lions cruised to an 80-46 home win over Alabama Huntsville Saturday in Gulf South Conference women's basketball action. The sixth straight victory gives the Lions a 22-2 record on the season, including a 15-2 mark in GSC play.

North Alabama has now also avenged its only two loss of the season. The Lady Chargers defeated UNA 87-81 in overtime on Jan. 20 in Huntsville. On Saturday, the Lions left no doubt, taking control with a 30-10 third-quarter run.

The Lions took a 30-18 lead into the half before making a statement in the third quarter. Panetti converted a three-point play in the opening seconds of the second half as UNA opened the period on a 19-4 run. Emma Wallen was 3-for-3 from three-point range and scored nine of her 18 points in the quarter.

Darby Madden also added a three-pointer, followed by a transition basket by Ansley Eubank to give the Lions a 60-28 lead heading into the final period. As a team, UNA was 11-of-17 from the floor in the third quarter.

UNA led by as many as 38 twice down the stretch. Two free throws by Kaitlyn Nunley made the score 78-42 with 1:16 remaining. Madden also connected on two free throws to give the Lions an 80-42 lead in the final minute of play.

Eubank finished with 15 points on the day. The sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., added eight assists and seven rebounds. Madded also reached double figures with 10 points.

For the game, UNA held a commanding 51-37 rebounding advantage. Panetti and Kenysa Coulson led the way with nine rebounds each for the Lions. Wallen hit six three-pointers for the game. She now has 83 treys on the season, breaking her own single-season record she set last year.

Chandler Elder led Alabama Huntsville (12-12 overall, 6-11 GSC) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
