FLORENCE, Ala. –
Kyle Hubbuch hit his 29
th career home run and four University of North Alabama pitchers scattered seven runs over nine innings as the Lions downed Union 5-1 at Mike Lane Field.
With the win, North Alabama improves to 3-3 overall while Union falls to 3-3.
Union got its only run on two hits in the top of the first inning off UNA starter
Shane Priest. Hubbuch then tied the game with a solo blast to right field in the bottom of the first. It was his second home run of the season and 29
th of his career with the Lions.
UNA took the lead for good in the third inning when
T.J. Lockett singled, stole second and scored on a n RBI-single by
Davis Elliott. The Lions loaded the bases in the inning but couldn't push any additional runs across the plate.
North Alabama extended its lead in the sixth as
Logan Carter was hit-by-pitch and scored on a double by
Peyton Sockwell. Sockwell then scored on an errant throw to third on a ground-out to make it 4-1.
UNA's final run came in the eighth when Carter doubled and scored on a
Ben Cooley RBI-double. Carter had two hits and was hit-by-pitch twice in the game.
Austin Nichols (1-0), the second of four UNA pitchers to throw in the game, got the win
