FLORENCE, Ala. –
Tyler Joyner threw his second complete-game shutout of the season and North Alabama backed him with 11 runs as the Lions recorded their fourth straight win of the season, 11-0 over Miles.
UNA got two runs in the bottom of the second inning and added three in the fifth, one in the seventh and five in the eighth.
Joyner (2-1) threw eight innings, allowing no runs on just two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
With the win, North Alabama improves to 4-3 overall and is a perfect 4-0 at home, Miles falls to 4-6.
UNA got two runs in the second when
Ben Cooley doubled and
Reid Homan and
Kevin Brenning both followed with RBI-singles.
In the fifth,
T.J. Lockett and
Davis Elliott both reached on errors and scored on a two-run single by
Logan Carter. Carter later scored on a
Peyton Sockwell single to make it 5-0.
In the seventh,
Kyle Hubbuch singled to extend his hitting streak to seven games and
Brandt Holland doubled. A sacrifice fly by Carter made it 6-0 as Hubbuch scored.
The Lions added five runs in the eighth inning on a combination of three hits, two walks, a hit batter and a Miles error. A two-run single by Sockwell pushed the last two runs across the plate and ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
The Lions and Bears will play a double-header beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
