BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS LIONS PAST MONTEVALLO

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team scored 64 second-half points to pull away from Montevallo for a 99-48 Gulf South Conference victory Monday evening at Flowers Hall. The win gives UNA a 21-2 record on the season, marking the most wins for the program since the 1999-2000 campaign.
 
All 10 players who dressed out scored for the Lions, who also improved to 14-2 in Gulf South Conference play. Emma Wallen hit six three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 20 points.
 
UNA led just 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and took a 35-27 lead into the break. The Lions more than doubled their score in the third quarter, outscoring Montevallo 36-13 to break the game open. Wallen hit a trio of three-pointers in the frame.
 
The 36 points is the most UNA has scored in a quarter this season. The Lions have now outscored opponents 488-342 in the third quarter this year.
 
The lead continued to grow in the final period. A jumper by Brittany Panetti gave UNA an 81-40 lead with 7:31 remaining and started a 15-0 run for the Lions. A transition basket by Madelyn Lindsey capped the run and gave North Alabama a 94-40 lead at the 3:21 mark.
 
Panetti finished with her second straight double-double at 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ansley Eubank added 12 points and six assists while Savannah Stults had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lions.
 
UNA will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against UAH. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers hall.
