CLEVELAND, Tenn. --
Kyle Hubbuch hit two home runs, including a two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning but it wasn't enough as the University of North Alabama dropped its baseball series finale at Lee, 8-7.
North Alabama led 5-3 in the seventh inning and then fell behind 8-5 going to the ninth. Hubbuch's two-run homer un pulled the Lions within a run but they couldn't get any closer.
With the loss, UNA is now 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee is 7-11 overall and 3-3 in the GSC.
Hubbuch's two home runs pushed him to seven for the season and tied the UNA career record of 34 set by Alan Pate from 1993-96.
Hubbuch was four-for-five on the day with two runs scored and four runs batted in.
North Alabama scored in the top of the first inning and
T.J. Lockett was hit-by-pitch, stole second and moved to third on a Hubbuch single.
Brandt Holland then drove Lockett in with a single.
After Lee tied the game in the bottom of the first, UNA regained the lead with a two-run fifth inning. Lockett and
Ben Cooley singled and Hubbuch drove in Lockett with an RBI-single. Cooley then scored on a
Peyton Sockwell double to make it 3-1.
Lee answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-3 and UNA plated another run in the top of the sixth to go back on top.
Tate Mathis singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on a
Reid Homan RBI-single to make it 4-3.
UNA pushed its advantage to 5-3 in the seventh on a solo home run by Hubbuch.
Lee scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and added three in the eighth off UNA closer
Channing Wall to take an 8-5 advantage. Cooley singled for UNA to leadoff the ninth and Hubbuch followed with a two-run homer to make it 8-7 but lee retired the next three Lion batters in order to end the threat.
Shane Priest started for UNA and pitched six and a third innings, allowing five runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Wall (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in an inning and a third.
North Alabama hosts Trevecca on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Mike Lane Field. Â
