SOFTBALL SWEEPS MILES FOR 15TH STRAIGHT WIN

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama softball team hit five homeruns and outscored Miles 27-1 in a double-header sweep on Tuesday. The 14-0 and 13-1 victories extended the Lions winning streak to 15 consecutive games and upped the team's record to 17-2 on the season.

Harley Stokes was 4-for-4 on the day, including a trio of extra-base hits. The freshman from Demopolis drove in three runs, including a pair of homers and a triple. Reagan Tittle also hit two homeruns during a 5-for-6 showing at the plate.

In the circle, the Lions used five different pitchers to hold Miles without an earned run.

In the opener, UNA scored in the bottom of every inning. A two-run single by Tittle in the bottom of the first inning gave the Lions the early lead. North Alabama sent 11 batters to the plate in the second. Tittle and Veronica Westfall each drove in two runs in the frame. The Lions also scored on an error and a bases-loaded walk to take an 8-0 lead.

After scoring four more runs in the bottom of the third inning, UNA wrapped up the scoring in the fourth with a two-run homerun by Stokes to left field.

Tittle was 3-for-3, while Kara Brewer and Marissa Hancock each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Laken Distefano got the pitching win to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The second game featured more of the same offensive attack for the Lions as UNA plated runs in every inning. North Alabama has now scored at least one run in 17 consecutive innings, dating back to the second game of the series at Lee. Other streaks to continue included five straight mercy-rule victories as the Lions pounded out 13 runs off 15 hits to end the game in the fifth inning.

After Brewer singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, the Lions scored twice in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Stokes led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Katie Parr also singled and later scored on an error.

The Lions plated five runs each in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to wrap up the scoring. Tittle connected on two-run homers in each frame to give her eight RBI on the day. Meleah Hargett also had a run-scoring triple.

Tittle's homerun in the fourth inning was the first of three consecutive homers for the Lions. Stokes followed with an inside-the-park shot to left field. Roberts then hit one out over the right center fence. Katie Eakes completed the scored with an RBI-single to score Madison Daniel from second base.

Stokes finished the second game 3-for-3 at the plate while Shelby Woodard, Tittle and Roberts added two hits each. Megan Garst picked up the pitching win to improve to 6-1 on the season.

UNA will return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at home against Shorter.
